"Praise the Lord with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings.
Sing unto him a new song; play skillfully With a loud noise."
Psalms 33, 2-3
The music program is one of the great strengths of the church, and a source of joy for the whole congregation.
We are pleased to welcome our new Music Director, Tudor Bota. He will play our Skinner Organ and grand piano and direct the choirs. We have a talented adult choir on Sundays and the childrens choir for special occasions such as the much-loved Christmas Carol and Christmas Eve Services, as well as Easter, and Children's Sunday.
The adult choir is comprised of a number of men and women who love to sing and who enjoy being part of the musical tradition at the Union Church. The choir is open to newcomers at any time. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings at 7:30 pm at the church, and again at 9:00 am on Sunday mornings, just prior to the Sunday service.
The childrens choir meets immediately after the Sunday service, to fit as well as possible with families busy schedules.
For more information, contact the music director.
Music and singing are powerful tools to help us be more sensitive to the presence of the Lord. There are many avenues available in our church, which enable us to better enter into Spirit-led praise and worship. Choir, small groups, soloists and instrumentalists all add to our church family's worship experience.
The largest choir in the church is the congregation. Many people in the congregation are blessed with beautiful voices. You may stand near one of them in your pew; perhaps you yourself are one such person. Would you like to do more than just follow along with the choir in the singing of our worship? Are you concerned that there will be a choir to lead the singing? Are you willing to spend one evening of the week with the choir in preparation so that our spiritual celebrations go smoothly and beautifully? Are you willing to share your musical talent and offer it back to the Lord just as He granted it to you? You are welcomed to be a part of the Union Church Chancel Choir if the answer is Yes.
The Christmas music selection will begin with a "Christmas Dance", a Northumbrian Melody arranged by Hal Hopson in four parts, continued by "Sing Joy", a medley of traditional carols alternating with fragments from "Messiah" by Handel arranged by Mark Hayes in a very accessible way for all voices. The children choir will also perform together with the adults. The piano accompaniament reveals a true orchestral tone reaching Gospel and Spirituals influences. It engages a very powerful and triumphant mood. You won't regret singing with us
