An update on Ancianos
The Nicaragua Outreach Committee is pleased to report that our first Ancianos event held on March 3rd was a big success. Our event brought together 54 Newton seniors, members of the Taiwanese Church, and our own older adult members for a fun lunch with bingo, music, and fellowship.
Thank you to all who helped make this event such a success.
An excited Bingo winner!

12:00 – 2:00 p.m.
We have learned a lot from the Nicaraguan people in our many trips as a church community to San Juan del Sur. One thing we have learned is that the senior citizens are valued by their community. Several years ago Jean Brugger of the Brugger Foundation in San Juan del Sur decided to host a celebration to honor seniors, who are called Ancianos. Last year many of our Nicaragua travelers had the pleasure of serving at the February Ancianos event, where they had dancing, games, prizes, and great food. This year the Nicaragua Outreach Committee will bring that piece of Nicaraguan culture to the Union Church with an Ancianos Event of our own on March 3rd from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. in our vestry. Like our friends in Nicaragua, we will serve food, hear music, and celebrate the gift that seniors are to our community. You are invited – especially if you are a senior – and would you please tell one neighbor and one friend, or better yet, bring them along! This is our thank you seniors event, and we hope to include everyone we can in the party.
