Confirmation Class: Key Dates and Special Events
Confirmation Meetings: Our confirmation class will meet about once a month on Sundays from 5:00 to 6:30 for meeting time, then 6:30 – 7:00 for dinner. The Confirmation Meetings will lead up to each young adult formulating a “Rule of Life”, or a set of ideas about who s/he is now, what her/his story is, what things s/he feels are most important, and what God has put on our hearts. The Rule of Life replaces the traditional Statement of Faith.
We will ask each family to sign up to bring in dinner, set up and clean up once during the year. Dates for Confirmation meetings are: September 28, October 26, November 23, December 14, January 25, February 8th, March 8th, April 12th
Commissioning, Sunday, September 21: Bibles given by Deacons in worship to commission the journey.
Confirmation Sunday May 17, with special reception to follow
Retreats: Our first overnight retreat will be Wednesday, September 24th. The Newton Public Schools are closed on Thursday, September 25th for Rosh Hashanah.
Service Opportunities/Houses of Worship: Service opportunities and visits to other houses of worship will be scheduled throughout the year. Service opportunities may include attending worship at Common Cathedral and helping with the church’s Thanksgiving Dinner. Visits to other houses of worship may include attending other Christian churches or houses of worship belonging to other faith traditions.
Sunday Mornings: There will not be a Sunday School class for those in the Confirmation Class. Instead, confirmands are asked to attend worship. It is also expected that Confirmands will sign up to assist in Sunday School a certain number of weeks.
