The Union Church in Waban Annual Stewardship Campaign

Making Space for Humility, Discernment, Generosity

Dear Union Church Family and Friends,

2025 has fast become a year of volatility, angst, division, and unpredictability in so many ways. We see a broken world struggling to solve some of the most fundamental challenges. Yet, in this environment sits a reflective, resilient and faithful congregation in UCW.

This year our Stewardship theme is Making Space, as we open our hearts and lives to greater humility, discernment and generosity. We seek to find deeper meaning and guidance in our lives to offer our best selves to the world. Guided by our faith and our inclusive, child cherishing, mission and outreach minded ways, we live out our covenant every year. This year feels like we need to lean in even more.

Our theme will help us strengthen ourselves for this work and galvanize the energy and resources we will need. But what do they mean and how do we move forward?

Humility: Humility requires us to let go. Let go of the weight of societal economic and social strata. Crowd out the noise that stifles creativity and imagination. Practicing humility opens a new door to seeing all others as ourselves. It is the base upon which flows richer discernment.

Discernment: Discernment is a process. It is an intentional reflection on what we are called to do in our lives. What choices will we make and how will we move forward? These answers can only be arrived at with the space and time of prayer, reconciliation, and openness to the Spirit. This deep reflection leads us closer to our faith and nurtures our soul to guide us to our next action which is generosity.

Generosity: Prepared through humility and discernment, we become ready to give generously of our time, talents and treasure for the good of the whole Body. Generosity is an expression of deep care and concern. It is a bold statement of values and a faithful expression of what it means to be a child of God.

Over the last two years the UCW Council has spent a great deal of the time setting a strong fiscal foundation under the church. This was only possible by the generosity of member bequests which we steward toward the future. The operating budget of the church is held up by the rental payments of our various church tenants and our annual pledging.

I hope you will take time during this Stewardship season to really reflect on the strength of the ties that bind this congregation. We know we are held up by our faith and guided to do more to reflect a more just and humane world for all.

We hope you will give generously. All gifts are deeply appreciated. As we reflected in our congregational conversation 36 members pledged in the 2024-2025 fiscal year. We look forward to expanding that number to get us to a balanced budget and a target of $170,000 of pledges.

We ask you to make your annual pledge either by visiting the link to our 2025-2026 Pledge form HERE. The form is also available at the Giving page of our website at www.ucw.org. You can also fill out a pledge card with one of the members of the Stewardship team on Stewardship Sunday, March 30 at reception.
