There is very little in the Gospels that tells of Jesus after his resurrection and before his ascension. This period gets 5 weeks in the liturgical calendar, but only one or two stories in each Gospel at most. As Pastor Amy shared in her sermon last Sunday, after the Resurrection, Jesus spends some time eating with his disciples, even sharing a grilled fish breakfast on the beach with them one morning. In addition, in every one of the Gospel accounts that includes Jesus after the resurrection, he gives some instruction to his disciples to share what they have learned: “I am sending you,” he says; “feed my sheep,” and “go and make disciples.”
|
It is not enough to know ourselves as taking part in Christ’s resurrection, as part of the one Body of Christ in the world today. If we are truly to live as Easter people, as people of the resurrection, we must share around the table, and we must share with others, as well. We’ll do one of those in worship this Sunday; I hope you’ll find ways to do the other, as well. To “speak the word of God in boldness,” as this Sunday’s scripture says, and to share your own experiences of God’s grace, love, mercy, and care with all who are in need of this good news.

Loving God, hear the prayers of your people gathered in this community.
|
- We pray for healing for Amy McMahon and Alan Cody, who are each recovering from surgery this week.
- For all in our UCW community who are ill, or who are caring for loved ones. For all who grieve, God, we ask for the comfort of your presence, especially in this tender season.
- We pray for peace for your people all throughout the world. Teach us to beat our swords into plowshares, O God, and to sow wisdom and reap peace, justice, and joy.
|
We pray to you, grateful for your accompaniment with us in all things. Amen.

Sharing the Stories of Our Faith
Reading Scripture in Worship
For generations the stories and wisdom of our faith were only shared orally, and reading scripture out loud is still a central part of our worship and community. Please consider sharing your voice in worship this spring.
