New Church Sign

BIG NEWS!! Thanks to the tireless work of Jane Purser and the whole Communications Committee, with support from Building and Council, our new church sign has been completed and installed!

We’ll have a more official ribbon-cutting and celebration of this wonderful addition to our witness in our little corner of Newton once construction in the area is completed. For now, we’re excited to have our name and logo visible to all who pass by.

From the Deacons

Flat Jesus Summer 2024!

This week, Flat Jesus took in the sights and sounds at Tanglewood, continued on his Canadian cruise with the MacDonald-Wellington family, explored a national park with Tanya L., and worshiped with all of the UCC-affiliated congregations in Newton. Where has your Flat Jesus been? Send pictures to Pastor Megan at [email protected] to share!

Prayers of the People

Loving God, hear the prayers
of your people gathered in this community,

  • We pray for Maddie B., that she may feel the love of God and the love of her church with her during what has been a difficult summer.
  • We pray for Beth and the Usher family, close family friends of Pastor Amy, as Beth seeks to make the best of each day, surrounded by love, in her journey with stage-four endometrial cancer.
  • We pray for Cindy, sister-in-law to Jay and Betty O'Beirne, as she faces a new and uncertain time in her journey with cancer.
  • We pray for Deborah Malone and her family following a fall and surgery. May God's healing, comfort, and strength surround Deb, David, Kathy, and her family.
  • For all in our community who are traveling this summer: for traveling mercies, joy, and a safe return home.
  • For all in our UCW community who are ill, or who are caring for loved ones. For all who grieve, God, we ask for the comfort of your presence.
  • We pray for peace for your people all throughout the world. Teach us to beat our swords into plowshares, O God, and to sow wisdom and reap peace, justice, and joy.
If you have other prayers of concern or celebration you
would like lifted up in community, please email
Pastor Megan at [email protected].

Mission and Outreach

An update from GBIO about the conclusion of the housing justice campaign.

Hello, GBIO! The time has come--the legislative session has closed, and we finally have definitive versions of the annual state budget as well as the highly-anticipated housing bond bill, the Affordable Homes Act. Now that these items have been finalized, there are some key campaign victories we want to uplift and celebrate!
  • Annual Budget
    • Public Housing - The operating budget for state housing authorities has been increased to $113 million! This is a significant increase from last year's original proposal of $92 million.
  • Affordable Homes Act (Housing Bond Bill)
    • Public Housing - This one is major! The bond bill includes what is possibly the largest potential investment in the health of our public housing portfolio in Massachusetts history. Our many rallies, huge actions, and IDMs have led to a massive $2.2 billion authorization for capital funding for the repair and improvement of public housing units.
Everyone deserves a home. When spent, this money will make an enormous difference in the lives of the over 70,000 of our most vulnerable residents and provide an example for the nation about the importance of safe and decent public housing.

GBIO, your tireless work over the past two years led to this moment. This is your victory! Every relational meeting, listening session and action was pivotal in shifting our state's conversation around public housing.
