"Make This Your Common Practice... Pray for each another so that you can live together whole and healed" James 5:16
It was a joy and comfort to be together again as we kicked off the new church year last weekend. Something special happens when we worship and are fed together at the communion table; when we hug, cry, and laugh together; when we celebrate together in the sunshine. The church is called the Body of Christ, and each of us members of it, and we find a healing, strength, and comfort unlike any other when we gather, re-united in Christ.
We will share additional information soon, but Pastor Megan has arranged two special times in the coming week to gather and heal. On Thursday Sept. 19; and Sunday, Sept. 22, Riverside Community Care’s Trauma Center will lead Coping Groups, guiding us through a highly supportive and structured session designed to thoughtfully and sensitively process the recent loss in our community. The goal of the group is to provide support as well as a safe, non-judgmental, and confidential space to reflect on how each individual, and our community, can begin to work toward healing -- and support each other in that process. They have asked attendees to RSVP so that we can make sure the groups are an appropriate size. Please email Pastor Megan or me if you would like to join either group.
We will also be praying for one another in a special way throughout the month with a new "take a prayer; leave a prayer" prayer station in our sanctuary (see the flyer and description in the side bar). If you won't be in the sanctuary in person, but would like to participate, please share your prayers with either Pastor Megan or me, and we will add them, and share community prayers with you. May we, connected, find a new wholeness and healing this year together.

Loving God, hear the prayers of your people gathered in this community,
- God, we lift to you the deep grief felt throughout our community following the sudden loss of beloved member Anya Bassett. May your peace which surpasses all understanding be made known to all who loved Anya.
- We pray for students of all ages beginning a new school year, and for parents, educators, support staff, and administrators who are supporting them as they learn and grow.
- We pray for healing for David Malone following eye surgery. May he be comfortable as he recovers, and may he and the whole Malone-van Reijendam family be strengthened as they support one another.
- For all in our UCW community who are ill, or who are caring for loved ones. For all who grieve, God, we ask for the comfort of your presence.
- We pray for peace for your people all throughout the world. Teach us to beat our swords into plowshares, O God, and to sow wisdom and reap peace, justice, and joy.

If you have other prayers of concern or celebration you

Sign Up to Host Reception
Every Sunday after worship we gather in the stage room for a time of fellowship. This reception is hosted each Sunday by different members of the congregation. Hosting a reception is a thoughtful expression of our hospitality to each other. And it is not difficult! Help is available if you have never hosted and feel daunted by the task. Please consider volunteering for two dates throughout the year.
