Summer Worship Services

August Sundays at 10:00 a.m.

(In Person in Memorial Chapel)

We’re back to UCW for summer worship this week, downstairs on the stage at 10:00 a.m., led by Amy McMahon. All are welcome!
A preview of the summer service bulletin & schedule can be found HERE.

Prayers of the People

Loving God, hear the prayers
of your people gathered in this community.

  • We pray for Pastor Megan, Leila, and their families as they get ready to welcome their twins this month.
  • We pray for those who are unhoused, sleeping rough, working outdoors, in unsafe living or working conditions, or otherwise subject to the effects of this summer’s heat without adequate cooling. We pray for immediate relief in the form of helpers and cooling centers, and for long-term, sensible action on global climate change.
  • We pray as many members of our community are traveling for the summer: for traveling mercies for all!
  • For all in our UCW community who are ill, or who are caring for loved ones. For all who grieve, God, we ask for the comfort of your presence.
  • We pray for peace for your people all throughout the world. Teach us to beat our swords into plowshares, O God, and to sow wisdom and reap peace, justice, and joy.
We pray to you, grateful for your accompaniment with us in all things. Amen.
If you have other prayers of concern or celebration you
would like lifted up in community, please email
Pastor Megan at [email protected].

From Our Pastor

Dear church,

The time has come! As of today, my parental leave is starting, and Bridge Associate for Children, Youth, and Families Katie Brown-Bright is on call for pastoral care needs for the remainder of August. If you have a non-urgent need, you can get in touch with her via email ([email protected]), and if you have an urgent need, you can call or text her cell phone at (713) 302-9619. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Katie if there is anything you need support around for August.

Aidan is on vacation through 8/18 but will be available once again for all church administrative support after that time. Our parental leave Bridge pastor, Rev. Rick Chrisman, begins work September 1 and will be reachable at [email protected] and his phone number, which he will share once he begins. And of course, our deacons, moderators, and Council are always happy to be in touch with you as needs arise; Katie and Aidan can help direct you to them if you do not have their contact information.

I’ll miss you all while I’m away, and I will be praying for all of you, just as I hope you will be praying for me, Leila, our families, and the twins! After they are born, we’ll send out an e-blast letting the community know. For now, I am resting, swimming, finalizing house prep, and generally getting ready to welcome two new people into our family!

Peace,
Megan

Connecting as Intergenerational Community

Southern New England UCC Annual Meeting

September 25-27, Worcester, MA

Did you know that as a partner congregation of the UCC, we are entitled to send delegates to the Southern New England Conference’s Annual Meeting? You can meet members from other local churches, attend workshops and worship, and vote on the business of the conference as we do at our own Annual Meeting.
This year’s meeting will be held in person in Worcester September 25-27 (all business conducted on Saturday the 26th), so the conference is working to get the word out early before the summer slowdown in local churches. More information is available HERE.
