SUMMER SEARCH is a year-round program all about relationships and opportunities. We use a unique combination of social-emotional mentoring, summer leadership experiences, and post-secondary advising to empower young people who face systemic oppression. Summer Search students grow and succeed in the ways most important to them and become thriving adults.
WHAT IS A CAREER COACH AND WHAT DO CAREER COACHES DO?
A Career Coach is a volunteer with at least three (3) years of professional experience. Coaches have knowledge of the “soft skills” needed to explore careers and acquire jobs, as well as current job search and application methods. Additionally, coaches possess an outgoing, friendly attitude that will enable them to create a lasting relationship with a Summer Search participant.
Coaches are matched with a college-aged student or recent graduate and commit to coaching participants around career readiness and career exploration for six (6) months. Coaches support students in navigating everything from on-campus career resources, internship and job searches, résumé and cover letter writing, interviewing, and other areas that can be difficult to navigate and master early in one’s career.
WHAT KIND OF TIME COMMITMENT IS THIS?
Each coach should plan to participate in an initial conference call, attend the Kick-off Event and spend about 2 hours a month, from January – June 2020 working with his or her student.
The application deadline for coaches for this year has closed.
Summer Search is still looking for internships for the summer of 2021 to offer to the many students in their program. So if your organization can offer internships, please let us know.
