Clergy & Staff
Welcome to The Union Church in Waban. We are an inclusive faith community. We cherish our children and youth and we are outreach and services minded. Our life together is one of deepening our relationships with each other, the world, and our God through a wide array of spiritual formation, education, and mission and outreach opportunities. We understand ourselves to be on a journey with people entering the community not so much through a doorway of doctrine but through a desire to learn and grow together. We hope that this beloved community can be a spiritual home for you, and we would welcome an opportunity to talk with you in person.
Peace to you –
Rev. Wendy Vander Hart
Interim Senior Pastor
[email protected] – 617.527.6221
In October of 2021, following a national search, the Union Church in Waban called Pastor Wendy to be our Interim Senior Minister. Accepting the call, Pastor Wendy will lead our congregation in this time of transition and guide us on our current journey to clarify our vision as church, explore new directions in our ministries, and prepare us to call our next settled pastor.
Pastor Wendy is uniquely qualified and well suited to lead Union Church Waban at this time. She most recently completed a successful term as Senior Interim Minister of the First United Church of Christ in Northfield Minnesota. Previously, closer to home, she served as Associate Conference Minister for the Southern New England Conference of the United Church of Christ. In this position for 13 years, she provided expert assistance and support to local churches in transition.
Pastor Wendy resides in Arlington with her spouse Joanne and cat Elsie. In her free time, she enjoys the spiritual discipline of golf, taking long walks each morning and playing a competitive game of Scrabble.

She received her Master’s of Divinity degree from Andover Newton Theological School, graduating with an award for excellence in communications, and a certificate in Interfaith Studies.
Pastor Amy’s previous experience includes work building bridges and communicating across differences as a bilingual consultant to organizations in the US and Latin America. In addition to her M.Div., she holds an M.B.A. from the University of Miami (FL) in international business and public administration, and B.A. degrees from the University of Connecticut in nonprofit administration and Spanish.
Pastor Amy lives in Natick with her two sons, her husband Greg, and their rescue dog Cody. She is a runner who loves to spend as much time as possible in the great outdoors.

Pastor Matt comes to UCW with great experience in youth and young adult ministry. It is a calling he has sensed on his life since teaching high school in Belize, graduating from Andover Newton Theological School and practicing ministry in a variety of settings. Pastor Matt leads a new church start, Agape Spiritual Community, which meets Sunday afternoons twice a month in Waltham and Weston. He has also led retreats for youth through the United Church of Christ in Southern New England. His resume includes rich experience in faith formation for all ages. The search team that brought him to UCW resonated strongly with his motto for ministry “kids want to know how much you care before they care how much you know.”
