Throughout October, the Mission Committee will be sponsoring a pumpkin sale here at Union Church on our front lawn. All proceeds benefit our efforts with Communities Without Borders to support educational opportunities for orphans and other vulnerable children in Zambia. The pumpkin patch will be open on Tuesdays from 12:30 to 1:30, and Sundays after worship from 11:30 to 12:30 beginning today. Spread the word to friends and neighbors!
Conversations Along the Way, Sunday at 11:30 a.m. in Stacy’s office or Wednesday, October 3rd at 9:00 a.m. at Starbucks. This is a low key, relaxed time to talk about our questions of faith or something from the sermon or service that you had thoughts about or questions. Please bring your wonderings, questions, curiosity.
Russell School Initiative Sunday from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. If you are interested in thinking about and exploring our newly forming relationship with the Russell Elementary School in Dorchester, and how you could get involved, please come to this meeting. Everyone is welcome to come hear about what has happened to date and to plan for what the year will bring.
Prayer Group will meet Monday, October 1st, at 7:30 a.m. in the side chapel. There will be no Prayer Group the following week, October 8th, due to the Columbus Day holiday.
There will be a Deacons’ meeting Tuesday evening, October 2nd, at 6:00 p.m.
Bible Study meets each Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m. in Stacy’s office. All are welcome, and newcomers are especially encouraged to attend. Our next meeting is this Sunday, September 30.
The Children’s Choir meets every week following worship, unless an announcement is made otherwise. Children’s Choir will not meet this Sunday. The choir will sing next Sunday (October 7) so please plan to have your Children’s Choir member(s) in church by 9:30 a.m. for an early rehearsal.
First Fridays, the new faith and fellowship group for 4th and 5th graders, will meet Friday evening, October 5th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Invite your friends too!
On October 9th, Lunch Bunch travels to The Butterfly Place in Westford. Please meet at the church at noon.

Songs of Praise and Thanksgiving (from Bill Merrill)
How many times do we find that music lifts us out of our everyday worries and we find ourselves transported to a better place? Making music with other people can often connect us with them in a way that words alone cannot. Singing as part of a group enables us to worship and express our thanks to our Creator in a profound and powerful way. On the second and fourth Sundays of each month this year we invite you to experience the joy of singing songs of praise and thanksgiving with our choir. You need only to come at 9:00 a.m.on those Sundays for a brief rehearsal. On Sunday, the 14th of October, we will sing a setting of the beautiful Argentinian folksong “Santo, Santo, Santo” (Holy, Holy, Holy) by Mary Kay Parrish. You will find this piece very inspirational—and it’s easy to learn!
