Sunday Morning Bible Discussion

Christian Education

We gather every Sunday from 8 – 9:00 am to study scripture and reflect on how God’s word informs our living today. Instead of following a curriculum, we simply choose a book of the Bible and read it out loud together, pausing as we do to reflect on what the text is saying and how it may impact our lives today.  No previous Bible study or Biblical literacy is needed.  Come every Sunday or come when you can.  All are welcome.  We are holding Bible study at this time so as to not conflict with choir rehearsal at 9:00 a.m. Please consider making a morning of it – Bible Study, Choir and then worship!

Wednesday Morning Bible Study/Exploring the Bible

Wednesday Morning Bible Study will continue in 2017.
Our Wednesday morning Bible study was such a success this fall that we decided we don’t want to stop!  We have decided to continue and on January 4th at 10:30 we will begin the second course in the three part Exploring the Bible series developed by the Massachusetts Bible Society.  The second course is an introduction to the Old Testament.  We will meet every other week for one and a half hours in a total of six sessions.

Living Water Prayer Service

Prayer GroupOn Wednesday mornings from 7:30 – 8:15 am we gather in the small chapel off the sanctuary for prayer. This time of prayer called “Living Water” is based on the passage in John’s Gospel where Jesus encounters the Samaritan women at the well (John 4:14). It gives us an opportunity to drink in the stillness of the peace and presence of God so that we will be filled and will not thirst as we go into the busyness of our weeks. We begin with 20 minutes of centering/meditative silence afterwards we light candles of prayers for celebrations and/or concerns we may have.

In 2017, we will focus on the topic: “Peace Like a River — Finding Balance in an Edgy World.”  Based on suggestions from several of our participants, this theme has emerged, particularly as we find our footing in shifting times.  Using Scriptures and the metaphor of water, we will explore ways to stay on course, individually and collectively.

Please note the following schedule:  FEB.  15 Check-in;  Introduction of module;  MAR. 15 Finding balance in the midst of fractured politics; APR.  19  Finding balance in our home life, MAY 17   Finding balance in the workplace,  JUN   21  Summing Up;  Spiritual Practices

We trust that we can support one another in this regard with our stories and our epiphanies. We start with a simple meal at 6:30 PM.  Food contributions are welcome.
